Garmin tools

Tools that run entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and no Garmin account is needed. Some turn your numbers into settings you can type into the watch; others read the files the watch exported.

Calculators

Heart rate zone calculator

Work out your five zones in bpm and compare what they look like under %Max. HR, %HRR and %LTHR — the three options in the Garmin zones menu — before typing them in. Start here if your watch never lets you run in zone 2.

Open the zone calculator

VDOT running pace calculator

Turn a race result into a VDOT and the easy, marathon, threshold, interval and repetition paces that follow from it, in min/km and min/mi. Start here if you know how fast you can race but not how fast to train.

Workout builder for Garmin

Write a workout as text — warm-up, repeats with recovery, cool-down — and download the .fit file the watch imports from GARMIN/NewFiles. Start here if a structured workout is easier to describe in words than to tap into the watch, or if you write your plans in Chinese.

File tools

Three pages for the files a watch produces: open and convert a FIT file, fix the coordinate offset of a track from a Chinese map service, and condense years of activities into one summary a language model can read. Files stay in your browser.

FIT file viewer, converter and repair

See what is inside a .fit file, convert it to GPX or CSV, and repair one that was cut short or whose checksum no longer matches.

Track offset fix

Tracks from Amap, Baidu or Xingzhe are off by hundreds of metres on a Garmin device: convert between GCJ-02, BD-09 and WGS-84 and see how far the track moved.

Export a summary for ChatGPT

Turn a folder of FIT files or a whole export archive into one short Markdown or CSV summary, with the caveats a model needs to read the numbers correctly.

Data insights

VO2 max level lookup

Enter age, sex and the number on your watch: get the level from Garmin's own table, the gap to the next band, and what raises the estimate.

Check my VO2 max

HRV baseline check

Garmin compares your HRV with your own baseline, not with a normal range. Put in last night's number and the range from Garmin Connect.

Body Battery diagnosis

A morning peak that never passes 50 has reasons: sleep length, alcohol, a late meal, stress or the device. Start from your own numbers.

Year in review

Drop a Garmin export in and get the year back: how far, how often, where, and how you slept between the runs. The files are read in this browser and never uploaded.

Which one to open

  • Your watch keeps you out of zone 2, or two devices disagree about where zone 2 starts: open the zone calculator and switch the basis from %Max. HR to %HRR or %LTHR.
  • You have a recent race or time trial and want training paces: open the pace calculator, then follow the link back to the zone calculator to turn the same effort into bpm.
  • You have a FIT file exported from your watch: the zone calculator reads it locally and fills the form with the zones your device is using right now.
  • You already know the workout — 5×1km with 400 m recoveries, or a 20 minute threshold block — and want it on the watch without tapping in every step: write it out in the workout builder and copy the file across.
