Export a Garmin summary for ChatGPT

Asking a model about five years of training does not work when the answer has to be a whole export archive: it is hundreds of megabytes of FIT files, and no chat window takes it. This page turns that pile into one short summary a model can actually read: totals, a per year and per month table, one row per activity, and a note saying which numbers came from the file and which were recalculated. Export a data summary as Markdown or CSV and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant.

What the summary says, and what it refuses to invent

  • It reports what the files contain. A month with no file is marked as no data, not as zero kilometres, and the summary opens by saying that it is not your complete training history.
  • A value the file does not carry is left empty. Nothing is filled in from a neighbouring activity, and a heart rate the watch wrote as 0 counts as not recorded.
  • Every row says where its numbers came from: the file's own summary, or a recalculation from the recorded samples.
  • When the summary would be too long, the per activity table is dropped first, then the monthly table, and the text says how many rows were left out. The totals always cover every activity.

Before you paste it into a chat

The summary carries training and health data: dates, distances, durations and heart rates. It never contains coordinates, file paths or the serial number of your watch, but it is still your data, so decide for yourself whether to share it.
