Compass is a hold a bearing and follow it app for Garmin watches. Your watch already knows which way you are facing. What it does not do is remember which way you decided to go. Tap the screen and this app holds that bearing. From then on the dial carries an amber mark for it and a line that reads how far you have drifted - 105 degrees, off 45. Glance down, turn until the mark slides under the pointer at the top, carry on. The held bearing is saved, so you can let the screen sleep, take the long way round an obstacle, and open the app again to the same heading. The dial turns with you and the pointer at the top is always the way you face, so reading your heading takes no arithmetic. Degrees are big enough to read at arm's length, with the compass point named underneath. It reads the same in Vietnamese, and that matters more than it sounds. A compass printed N E S W is wrong by 180 degrees for a Vietnamese reader, because there "N" is Nam, the south. Set the app to Vietnamese and the dial reads B, D, N, T with the full names spelled out. English by default, Vietnamese when the watch is set to Vietnamese, or pick either one by holding the top of the screen. Nothing to set up. No account, no phone app, nothing leaves the watch. One honest note: a compass needs a calibrated magnetometer. If the watch has nothing to give yet, the app says so and tells you to turn your wrist in a figure eight rather than showing you a number it does not have. Compatible watches: Venu 4. Not supported: Only Venu 4 (45mm and 41mm) for now. The dial is drawn with vector fonts so Vietnamese keeps its diacritics, and it has only been checked against a real Venu 4 compass - claiming more watches than that has been tested is how you earn a one-star review.
