Descripción

Japanese Walking Pro is an interval walking (IWT) timer for your Garmin watch. The method comes from research at Shinshu University in Japan: you alternate fast and slow walking, 3 minutes each by default, five times. The watch keeps time, so you can focus on walking. How it works: Press START and walk. FAST is brisk walking where you feel slightly out of breath and can only speak in short sentences. SLOW is an easy stroll where you can chat comfortably. The built-in Guide screen shows how hard to push. You feel every phase change on your wrist: a different vibration for FAST and for SLOW, ticks during the last three seconds, and a signal at the end of the walk. Vibration strength and sound are set in Settings. The ring around the screen shows the whole plan, and the width of each segment matches the length of the phase. Heart rate: During the fast phase the app shows a target heart rate, calculated automatically from your profile as 65 percent of your heart rate reserve. You can set your own value from 80 to 200 or turn the guidance off. If your heart rate is still below the target after a minute of the fast phase, the watch gives you a gentle nudge. Goal and progress: The weekly goal is minutes of fast walking, 60 by default. The Progress card shows how much is left. A list of your last 7 walks with a full summary: rounds, phase times, average heart rate, time in the heart rate target and distance. Settings: Fast and slow phases from 1 to 5 minutes, 3 to 10 rounds, and you can start with either the fast or the slow phase. Outdoors mode with GPS and Indoors mode without GPS. Garmin Connect: Every walk is saved as an activity with a lap for each phase and your heart rate, and outdoors also with the route and distance. A walk shorter than one minute is not saved. The app works without a phone and without an account, and the interface is in English. This is not a medical device. Check with your doctor before starting a training program, especially if you have heart or circulation problems.
