Descripción

This datafield determines energy expenditure and expenditure rate for rucking. A lot of people are questioning if Garmin's calories burned algorithm is actually correct when carrying a ruck weight. This app provides a way to test if it is or not by comparing to a validated calculation method for rucking. NOTE: This is a data field and must be added to an activity app, like a walk to be used. # Features * Displays real-time estimated grade, speed, energy expenditure rate (kcal/h), total kcal expended, or METs (Option to display all metrics for diagnostics) * Accounts for uphill and downhill grades * Set the ruck weight and terrain factor (see guidance below) in the data field settings. (The units for the weight are determined by the weight units setting in your user profile settings) To change the ruck weight on the watch see here for instructions: https://ko-fi.com/post/How-to-Change-Data-Field-Settings-Directly-on-the-S6S611GYAK * Option to display energy in kJ or kcal # FULL Version Features * Saves trend of grade, estimated energy expenditure (EE) rate and Garmin's energy expenditure (EE) rate to FIT file for graphical viewing in the Garmin Connect app. * Saves the ruck weight, terrain factor, estimated total kcal burned, average uphill speed, and average downhill speed in the FIT file for viewing with the activity summary in the Garmin Connect app. * Option to saves METs, MET-h, average METs to FIT file for viewing in the Garmin Connect app. * Indoor treadmill mode option (set the treadmill incline in the data field settings; terrain factor should be set to 1.0) NOTE: By comparing the estimated energy expenditure rate to Garmin's energy expenditure rate and total kcal burned to Garmin's total kcal burned, we can evaluate how much Garmin inherently accounts for the ruck weight in its algorithm. If you perform the activity with zero ruck weight, and do the same comparison, the result should come out equal (ideally). Perform a test on a uniform grade path at uniform speed to compare kcal expended with other available rucking calculators. Please provide feedback on what results you get. # How to set the terrain factor 1.0 = paved road, treadmill 1.1 = dirt road 1.2 = light brush, gravel road 1.5 = heavy brush 1.7 = ice, slippery hard clay 1.8 = swampy bog 2.1 = loose sand 2.5 = soft snow 15 cm 2.7 = snow with snowshoes 3.3 = soft snow 25 cm 4.1 = soft snow 35 cm NOTE: The terrain factor can be changed during the activity using the Garmin Connect IQ app. The new value will take effect immediately (data up to that point will still use the previous value), but only the last value is stored in the Garmin Connect activity record. # Payment For the Full version, use this link to pay US$1.49 via Stripe (no account required; credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay accepted). https://buy.stripe.com/28ocOr27O7sN2cg8Gk Alternative payment via Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/trudelta/1.49USD Important instructions to get your unlock code quickly: https://ko-fi.com/post/Payments-via-PayPal-Z8Z6AIK78 Payment via Stripe is recommended because you will get your unlock code immediately on the payment confirmation screen. Try my "Rucking for Everyone" app: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/15ed1178-bfba-42b1-ba26-6952731c304b available for all Garmin models. Does Garmin Accurately Measure Calories for Rucking or Not? Results from an actual test. See https://ko-fi.com/Post/Does-Garmin-Properly-Measures-Calories-for-Rucking-Y8Y31DLJMU Version 0.15.0 Corrected total kcal (or kJ) calculation for possible situations where the data field is not updated at regular intervals. Version 0.14.0 Prevented Grade display from frequenty displaying "----". Version 0.13.0 Improved the energy expenditure estimation algorithm. Adjusted font size in cases where only one parameter is displayed in the data field. Version 0.12.0 Improved the energy expenditure estimation algorithm. Version 0.11.0 Made changes to the ruck weight setting take effect immediately when the setting is changed on the watch during the activity. Version 0.10.0 Added the ability to set the ruck weight from the watch. Inputting the weight from the watch is restricted to integer values only. For fractional lbs or kg values, use the Garmin Connect IQ app. This requires a Garmin model with Connect IQ version 3.2.0 or higher. To change the ruck weight on the watch see here for instructions: https://ko-fi.com/post/How-to-Change-Data-Field-Settings-Directly-on-the-S6S611GYAK Version 0.9.2 Added support for the Vivoactive 6 model. Version 0.9.1 Added support for the Descent G2 model. Version 0.9.0 PRO version only change. Added workaround for Garmin firmware bug on some models that gave incorrect results for treadmill mode. Revised speed estimation in treadmill mode to use current speed rather than average session speed. Version 0.8.2 Added support for the Approach S50 and S44 models. Version 0.8.1 Added support for Instinct 3 models. Version 0.8.0 Corrected crash on older devices with less memory. Version 0.7.1 Added support for the Enduro 3 and Fenix 8 models. Version 0.7.0 Changed saving of METs, MET-h, and average METs to a full version feature. FULL version changes: Added indoor treadmill mode. Version 0.6.0 Attempt to fix crash problem. Version 0.5.0 Completely redesigned filtering calculation for more smooth and stable values, and hopefully greater accuracy. Version 0.4.0 Made changes to prevent invalid calculated values. Version 0.3.1 Added support for Forerunner 165 models. Version 0.3.0 Added setting to control whether or not MET metrics should be saved to Garmin Connect. If you have other 3rd party Connect IQ data fields installed for the activity which also save data to Garmin Connect, the maximum limit of 16 saved metrics may be exceeded. Version 0.2.6 Added support for the Descent Mk3 43mm models. Version 0.2.5 Added support for the Fenix 7 Pro Solar. Version 0.2.4 Added support for the Descent Mk3 model. Version 0.2.3 Added support for the Fenix 7X Pro Solar. Version 0.2.2 Added support for Vivoactive 5. Version 0.2.1 Added support for Venu 3 series. Version 0.2.0 Saved ruck weight in the FIT file (Garmin Connect activity record) in lbs or kg depending on the watch's weight units setting instead of always saving in kg. Version 0.1.0 Added selection of a single metric for display (or all metrics). Applied new settings immediately when changed. (Changing units however will mess up the graphs recorded with the activity in Garmin Connect) Version 0.0.14 Corrected missing avg downhill speed metric. Minor adjustments to the layout. Attempt to correct superfluous decimal places displayed in the total energy expended metric. Version 0.0.13 Corrected total EE value saved to activity summary when units was set to kilojoules. Filtered real-time values for more stable readings. Version 0.0.12 Corrected missing metrics from activity summary. Version 0.0.11 Added missing units in saving the ruck weight to the activity summary. Added average uphill and downhill speed metrics to the activity summary.
