Cave Body Metrics – Advanced Physiology Tracker Specially developed for cavers: "Cave Body Metrics" is a highly specialized data field that precisely records your body's physical strain under extreme conditions. Instead of just tracking standard values, this module uses your individual heart rate zones, barometric data for vertical speed, and your gear weight to create tailored exertion and endurance graphs for your post-trip analysis. Maximum data in the background: To keep the display clear and easy to read, this data field shows two essential main values on the watch: Your current performance (PWR) and your remaining endurance (STA). All other highly complex metrics are continuously measured in the background and written directly into your FIT file, becoming available as detailed graphs in Garmin Connect after synchronization. The following 6 values are recorded and provided as a chart: - PWR (Metabolic Power in W): Calculates your continuous physical performance in pseudo-watts. The algorithm fuses your heart rate intensity with your horizontal and vertical movement speed (VSpeed), factoring in total mass (body weight + gear). - Step Impulse: Records your movement and step impulses per recording interval to reflect your rhythm and potential fatigue. - RMI (Relative Motion Index): A biomechanical efficiency value. It relates your physical movement coordination to your invested metabolic power per kilogram of body weight. - TRIMP Load (Training Impulse): An exponential stress score based on Dr. Eric Banister, measuring the overall physiological load of the trip. The algorithm dynamically accesses your heart rate zones and integrates the thermal stress of the cave to calculate the load individually. - Vertical Work (kcal): Specifically calculates the mechanical energy in kilocalories expended exclusively for vertical ascent (e.g., on a rope or in a shaft). - STA (Stamina in %): A dynamic endurance indicator. The depletion rate is calculated in real-time based on your metabolic power, heart rate intensity, and a temperature factor. Intelligent: The value is continuously saved and remains intact even if the activity is paused. SETTINGS: Configure Gear Weight & Temperature: Via the app settings (Connect IQ), you can define your additional gear weight as well as the cave temperature. The algorithm uses these for precise weight and performance calculations. *** Important Notes *** * I am a caver, NOT a programmer. If you find bugs or have tips on how I can improve this app for you, just write to me! * Garmin chest strap recommended: For the most precise recording of physiological data and optimal TRIMP scoring, this data field is optimized for use with a heart rate monitor (HRM) chest strap. +++ Tip +++ The ultimate cave dashboard! Would you also like to precisely record the extreme conditions of your environment? Then download my second data field "CAVE ENVIRONMENT METRICS"! While Cave Body Metrics analyzes your physical exertion, the sister module tracks the hard physical data underground in parallel.
