Description
Nine holes of real golf, played over your golfer's shoulder. You stand behind
him at address with the fairway running away to the pin, pick a club, aim it,
swing it — and the camera leaves with the ball, climbing and turning with it
until it lands, bounces and runs out. Par 36, 171 to 548 yards, in clean
flat-shaded 3D on a screen the size of a coin.
A round takes about ten minutes. A hole takes one.
### The swing is three presses
The classic arc meter, on the bezel ring where there is room for it. Press to
start the backswing, press to set the power, press again at the mark. Catch the
mark and the ball goes where you aimed; miss it and your hands put sidespin on
it, and you will watch the ball bend twenty yards into the trees over five
seconds in the air.
Nothing fires itself. The needle runs to the end of the arc, turns round and
comes back for as long as you need, so an interruption costs you time and never
a shot.
### Ten clubs, and the ground is one of them
Driver down to lob wedge, plus a chipper that keeps the ball under the branches
and running, and a putter. The game suggests a club for the yardage and the lie;
taking a different one is usually why you are reading this description.
Every surface plays differently, because the ball keeps moving after it lands.
Fairway gives a long bounce and a proper run-out, rough stops it where it
pitches, sand takes the distance away, the green takes one hop and kills it, and
water costs you a stroke and a drop back down the line. Pines stand in the way,
and a ball that catches one drops out of it. The wind sits on a dial that turns
with your aim, so a crosswind is something you see rather than work out.
A chip can run in from off the green. So can a tee shot, once.
### On the green
A line to set and a pace to find, and pace is the whole putt: dead weight dies
at the cup, anything more runs past, anything less was never going in. The read
shows how far the ball will travel before you hit it — and a better putter buys
more of that read, never a straighter line.
### How to play
- **SELECT**, or a tap in the middle of the screen, does everything: the next
step, then the three swing presses
- **UP / DOWN**, or the top and bottom of the screen, change club and swing the
aim — hold them and it keeps turning
- **UP** on a landed tee shot plays a mulligan, if your bag has one in it
- **BACK** for the menu, options and the boards
### Three tees, three different golf courses
Amateur plays the front tees with wide fairways and a breeze. Pro plays the card
as drawn, into fourteen miles an hour. Tour plays the back tees with fairways cut
a fifth narrower and over twenty. Each has its own global board, so an Amateur
round is never compared to a Tour round.
### Modes
- **Round** — nine holes against par
- **Closest to the Pin** — five approaches, scored on the total feet left
- **Daily Round** — the same course, wind and pin for everybody, once a day
### Equipment you earn, not buy
Six pieces, and every one sells forgiveness or information: a wider
pure-strike band, the wind to the exact mile an hour, further into the putting
read, a mulligan in the bag. None of them touches the score you post. The glove
comes with experience, the rangefinder, driver and full bag with daily streaks of
three, seven and fourteen, and the milled putter and balata ball for three
birdies in a round and for an eagle.
### Features
- Third-person 3D on every supported watch, from round fenix to Instinct
