This data field displays the metabolic equivalent of an activity, METs, derived from power measurements from a cycling or rowing power meter. Therefore, this measurement will be faster responding to changes in physical exertion than heart rate derived METs. One MET is 1 kcal/kg/h which is approximately the calorie burn rate at rest. For people that do neither of these activities, METs is an alternative way to gauge cardiovascular fitness. You should be capable of exercise at a level of at least 5 METs for an independent lifestyle and a higher survival rate. Higher than 8 METs is more desirable because at 8 METs risk factor for death from major causes is reduced in half compared to at 5 METs. So far I have found that use of this data field for running requires a scaling calibration setting. I have found that a scaling calibration factor of 0.65 gives good results. Set this setting in the data field settings.
