NaviGo: glance at your wrist, keep your phone in your pocket. Turn-by-turn directions on your Garmin watch, driven by your iPhone. Choose a route on the phone, press Start, confirm once on the watch when it asks, and put the phone away. The watch shows each turn and buzzes as it gets close, so you handle your phone less on the way. How it works: the iPhone does the work. It holds the GPS, fetches the route and decides which way you turn next and how far away that turn is. The watch has no GPS and no network of its own. It draws the next turn as an arrow with the distance and the street name, and a second screen shows the route as a map. Less phone handling: - Escalating buzzes ahead of each turn: one short buzz by 200 m before it, two by 50 m, and three just before it. At speed they come sooner, about 20, 8 and 3 seconds ahead. One long buzz when you arrive. - Guidance itself needs no presses. One optional press or tap switches between the arrow and the map, and if you leave the route and the phone cannot get a new one, the watch shows the map by itself. - The phone can stay locked in a pocket or bag, once NaviGo's location access is set to Always on the iPhone. - The watch app opens when you press Start on the phone (confirm once on the watch) and closes on Stop. If it drops out mid-ride, the watch asks again: one tap on the prompt brings guidance back. What you need: - The NaviGo iPhone companion app. It is not publicly available yet; without it this watch app shows nothing. - Garmin Connect Mobile on the iPhone, paired with your watch. What it does: - Follow a route from Google Maps: paste a share link (maps.app.goo.gl) or share it from the Google Maps app, or paste a "lat, lon" coordinate. - Next turn arrow, current road, street name and distance measured along the route. - Distinct symbols for roundabouts, merges and forks. - Off-route detection that waits for confirmation before asking for a new route; the watch shows REROUTING until it arrives. - With no mobile data, a straight-line bearing and distance (DIRECT) so the screen never goes blank. What it does not do: no voice guidance, no traffic, and no navigation without the phone. The buzzes tell you a turn is coming, not which way it goes, and a reroute does not buzz, so glance at the arrow. The watch's own labels are English only. Follow your local traffic rules. In some places they also cover using a watch while you ride or drive. Tested devices: only the vivoactive 5 has been tested on real hardware. The app is declared for the other listed watches and builds for them, but they have not been verified. Please report problems. Privacy: the iPhone reads your location to follow the route. It sends Google Maps the share link you open, and your position and destination when you paste a "lat, lon" or need a new route. It sends the public OpenStreetMap Overpass service the area around your route, and around your position while you are off it, to draw the map's streets. Only if you send "Request a watch" in Settings, your picks and note go to a Google Apps Script. The watch app only talks to your iPhone, and there is no account, analytics or tracking.
