Feed Zone tells you what and when to eat and drink while you ride, in real time and adapting to your effort, not a generic hourly guideline.
It works out how many carbs and how much fluid you need from your normalized power and accumulated work (kJ). Your carb target FOLLOWS your effort: it rises on climbs and intervals and eases off when you ride easy, using your recent Normalized Power.
WHAT IT DOES
• Full-screen eat and drink alerts that pop up even when you're on another data screen. The tone tells eating (3 beeps) from drinking (2) by ear, without looking at your Garmin.
• "Next intake" screen: in large type, what comes next (eat or drink) and in how many minutes; below, how you're doing against the plan for carbs and fluid, in green, orange or red. Time and intensity (IF) in the header.
• Form by intensity: gels when you push hard (fast sugar), bars and gummies when you're comfortable. And it counts the carbs you drink from your bottle.
• Fueling level (Standard / High) to match how much you fuel to your tolerance.
• More fluid in the heat and an end-of-ride taper (stops nagging near the finish).
• Bilingual (Spanish / English) and night mode.
• Records developer fields in the FIT (carbs and fluid consumed and their deficits; at the Calibration level, also targets and temperature) to review everything in Garmin Connect.
Works with or without a power meter (degraded mode with a conservative estimate). Set your FTP and bottles (capacity, type and carb grams) from Garmin Connect Mobile.
IMPORTANT — ENABLE THE ALERTS
For the alerts to appear full-screen (in addition to the tone), enable them once on your Edge:
1) Add Feed Zone to a data screen in your activity profile.
2) On the Edge: Menu - Activity Settings - Alerts & Notifications - Connect IQ Alerts.
3) Enable Feed Zone in the list.
Without this step you'll only hear the tone; the full-screen alert won't appear.
Compatible with Edge 530, 540, 550, 830, 840, 850, 1030, 1030 Plus, 1040 and 1050.

v1.2.13 · Sweat profile and back-to-back alerts
• Sweat profile in the settings: four options to fit the fluid target to you. Standard (not measured) is the usual one and the recommended choice if you don't know your rate; if you don't touch the setting, nothing changes. I sweat little lowers it by 20 % and I sweat a lot raises it by 25 %. My measured rate uses your sweat rate in ml/h; the setting's help explains how to measure it by weighing yourself before and after a ride.
• Heat extra and cap: the temperature extra is added the same way with any profile, and the target never goes above 1 litre per hour.
• The second of two back-to-back alerts now reaches the screen: when eating and drinking come due almost together, at least 30 s pass between one alert and the next (10 s before). The second alert waits up to 20 s longer and shows full screen, not just the tone.
• Calibration FIT: it stores the sweat profile used in the activity summary. The Essential level doesn't change.
v1.2.11 · "Next intake" screen, reliable temperature and more memory headroom
• New "Next intake" screen, replaces the rings: what comes next (drink or eat) and in how many minutes, in large type; below, for each one, its countdown and how you are doing against the plan (-17 g, +40 ml), in green, orange or red with the same thresholds that trigger the alert. The header keeps time and IF.
• Framed alerts: the background follows day or night mode and the product color goes in a thick frame. They show the amount in large type and what gets logged ("counts as 30 g carbs").
• The heat fluid bonus no longer jumps: it rises gradually between 16 and 20 °C and between 24 and 28 °C, instead of switching straight to +75 ml/h and +150 ml/h.
• Stale temperature stops counting: if the weather data coming from the phone has not changed for more than 2 hours (for example, with no coverage), the app stops adding the heat bonus.
• The carb target no longer starts low if you turn on the Edge before riding, nor drops after a stop: power only counts while the activity is running.
• More memory and stack headroom, especially on the Edge 530 and 1030 with an alert on screen, and a lighter build.
• Lighter Calibration FIT: it goes from 16 to 13 fields, leaving more room for other Connect IQ fields on the profile. It no longer records energy or NP (Garmin already does) and adds where the temperature comes from and the heat bonus applied. The Essential level, the default one, doesn't change.
