SailLog turns your watch into a ship's logbook.
Record your trip as a Garmin Sailing activity with a full track, and keep a proper log alongside it: every manoeuvre, wind shift and weather change with time, position, speed and course.
LOGGING
• Press the Lap (Back) button to drop a waypoint — instantly, no menu.
• For the next 60 seconds you can label it: Tack, Jibe, Reef in, Reef out, Sails up, Sails down, Engine on, Engine off, Anchor down, Anchor up, Note.
• Log wind (direction and Beaufort) and weather as separate observations — they don't end a leg.
• 300 entries, scrollable, with a detail page per entry. Earlier trips are archived and stay readable.
ON DECK
• SOG and COG side by side, equally large — when you're sailing, neither one is the main number.
• Tack and gybe angle: your current course against the average of the previous leg. Green and plus for starboard, red and minus for port.
• Averages for the current leg and the two before it, so right after a tack you can see whether the new one is working.
• Barometric trend over three hours, moon phase and the next sun event.
ANCHOR WATCH
• Swing circle from 20 to 200 m. North-up display with the anchor, your boat and the swing track.
• Drag alarm that escalates: vibration first, an alarm tone after half a minute — a GPS glitch shouldn't wake the whole crew.
• Runs independently of the recording and survives an app restart.
• Battery level on screen, and the GPS switches to multi-band while anchored, where a few metres decide whether the alarm at three in the morning is right.
MAN OVERBOARD
• At the top of the main menu, one press of Up away — in any state, even without a recording running.
• Position, bearing and distance, recalculated every second, with the arrow shown relative to your own course.
AFTER THE TRIP
• Send the log to your phone as a readable table over your phone's internet connection. No companion app required.
• The FIT file carries waypoint numbers, speed and course per lap plus an event track, so the log is visible in Garmin Connect as well.
Units: knots, nautical miles, degrees. Coordinates as degrees and decimal minutes (47°12.345' N).
The watch interface is in English.
IMPORTANT
SailLog is a logbook and an aid to keeping watch — not a navigation or safety device, and no substitute for proper lookout, charts and a tested anchor alarm. The anchor watch depends on GPS reception and battery level and may fail to alarm. Man overboard is a convenience, not a rescue system. Use at your own risk. The app is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and without liability for any loss or damage arising from its use.
