US AND WORLDWIDE. In the US, tides come from NOAA; elsewhere from more than 1,400 tide gauges in over 90 countries (the TICON-4 dataset). On the watch, Use nearest station lists the ones near you. WHY IT EXISTS On some Garmin watches the built-in Tides app publishes no complication, so no watch face can show the next tide or open Tides when you touch it. This app fills that gap: it keeps its own tide predictions and publishes the next high or low for the DigiTides face to display. Powers the tide field on the DigiTides watch face (sold separately). SEVEN DAYS Below the chart, one page per day lists every high and low with its time and height. Change pages with UP and DOWN or a swipe. GLANCE Add it to your glances for the next high or low and a bar of the tide rising and falling. Not listed after installing? Restart the watch. CHOOSING A STATION Use nearest station lists the five closest stations, with distances. Pick the one that matches your beach, not just the closest. You can also type a station ID, on the watch or in the Garmin Connect app: a NOAA ID in the US, or one from openwaters.io/tides/stations elsewhere. STAYS CURRENT A week of predictions is stored on the watch, so tides keep showing through days away from your phone. The app refreshes twice a day when your phone is in range, and moves on to the next tide as soon as one passes, even while closed. Heights follow your watch's units (feet or metres) and are measured from the station's chart datum: Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) at NOAA stations, usually Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) elsewhere. Times are the station's local time. Press START or hold MENU for settings. PERMISSIONS • Communications: downloads tide predictions and runs the nearest-station search, via the Garmin Connect app on your phone. • Positioning: used only when you choose Use nearest station, to read the watch's last known position. It never turns on GPS. • Background: refreshes tides and updates the next tide while the app is closed. • Complication publisher: shares the next tide with the DigiTides face. PRIVACY Your location leaves the watch only when you choose Use nearest station. It is rounded to a cell about 1 km across and sent to a lookup service the developer runs on Google Cloud. That service keeps no database; its request log (the rounded cell and your phone's IP address) is deleted after 30 days. A US station ID is sent to NOAA. Any other station ID goes to the same lookup service, which fetches the predictions from Open Waters itself, so Open Waters never sees your IP address. No account, no personal information, no advertising or analytics. Outside the US they come from the tidal constants of the gauge you choose, which may be some distance from your beach, so they can differ from official local tide tables.
