Pace your race to a goal. Set a race distance (5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon or a custom distance in km) and a goal, either a finish time or an average pace; the watch fills in the other one. Racing shows your current pace large, the pace you need from here (REQ), how far ahead or behind your goal or plan you are, your race time and distance run, under a heart-rate zone gauge, with a progress arc and a finish view showing your result; all values in plain white. Before the start it shows your race distance and goal time so you can check them. Pacing plan: run an even pace, or a negative or positive split where every km (or mile) is a few seconds faster or slower than the one before. Set it by the step, or by the pace of your first km and the step is worked out from your goal; the settings show the plan's start and end pace. If you fall off the plan, choose whether the required pace catches up to still finish on your goal time, or stays on the plan. Settings: race, goal and pacing plan on the first page; the pace alert timings and display options in their own groups. Pace alert: a TOO SLOW / TOO FAST alert when your pace is more than a few seconds (you choose) off the required pace. You also choose how long to wait before alerting, the time between alerts, how many times it repeats, and when it stops for the race. Setup: in your Run activity, add a data screen with the 1-field layout and choose Racing. Then set your race distance and goal in the field's settings (Garmin Connect app, or on the watch). Pair it with the Training data field on another screen to have both. Paces are entered per km or per mile, matching your watch's pace setting. Pace smoothing (1-30 s) averages current pace for a steadier number, and labels can be turned off. The gauge uses the running heart-rate zones from your user profile.

The box next to REQ now follows If off plan. Keep goal: GOAL shows the time you are ahead (-) or behind (+) your goal, and REQ wins it back. Keep plan: PLAN shows how much faster (-) or slower (+) the km you are in is run than its planned pace (REQ), e.g. +0:07 = 7 s per km too slow.
