Description

Aruki runs Japanese interval walking the way the original Shinshu research did it: three minutes fast, three minutes easy, five times over, with the fast part pitched at about 70 % of your own peak. A three-minute walking test measures your peak heart rate, cadence and speed, and Aruki turns those into a target heart rate and a target cadence for the fast and the easy phase. Other apps only run a clock; Aruki tells you whether you are actually walking fast enough. During the walk you see the phase, the countdown and a band meter with your heart rate or cadence against the target. The watch vibrates when the phase changes and when you drop below the band for 20 seconds. Afterwards you get a quality score, the minutes that were truly fast, and a bar for each interval. The week page counts those minutes against the 60-minute weekly goal from the research, with a streak and an eight-week trend. When the same pace starts costing you less heart rate, Aruki suggests a new test. WHAT IT DOES - Three-minute calibration test: peak heart rate, peak cadence and peak speed - Fast and easy targets worked out from your own peak, by heart rate, cadence or both - Live band meter, phase countdown and vibration at every phase change - Vibration when you fall below the fast band for 20 seconds - Quality score and truly-fast minutes per walk, with a bar per interval - Weekly dose against a 60-minute goal, active days, streak and eight-week trend - Suggests a retest when walks get easier or after four weeks - Adjustable intervals (1 to 10 minutes), number of sets, warm-up and cool-down - Treadmill mode without GPS, saved as a walking activity in Garmin Connect - Glance with this week's minutes and your streak, five languages WHAT IT NEEDS - A watch with wrist heart rate; cadence comes from the watch itself - GPS outdoors for the peak speed (optional; treadmill mode estimates it from your height) - Height and resting heart rate from your Garmin profile, or set them in the app

What is new

The glance now resets your week streak after a missed week without opening the app.
