Peel the globe open at the South Pole, spread it flat around the North Pole, and the world becomes a disk: the continents fan out from the center, and Antarctica stretches into a white ring around the rim. Mapmakers call this layout an azimuthal equidistant projection. Flat-earthers call that white ring an ice wall. I'm not sure if the Earth is flat, but it does make for a really cool watch face. The current hour's numeral glows gold. - Real day and night, projected onto the flat map, with a soft twilight edge. ONE SUN, TWO TROPICS The Sun sits over the place where it is overhead right now (true solar time), on its seasonal lane between the tropics. As it would on a flat Earth, it spirals in toward the Tropic of Cancer in June and out to the Tropic of Capricorn in December. Dashed tropic lanes mark the way, and a short trail shows where the Sun has been. The ice wall dims from 80% by day to 65% after sunset at your location. MAKE IT YOURS Four settings, on the watch or in Connect IQ: - Daylight: Spotlight, True day/night, or Off. - Digital clock: Left ocean, Steps aside (moves out of the Sun's way), or North Pole hub. - Minute marker: Bead, Arc, or Off. - Dial numerals: 12 hour or 24 hour. ALWAYS ON When the watch sleeps, the always-on display takes over: the 24-hour dial with the Sun as a gold dot at its hour-hand angle, the ice wall, and the time and date. It is dimmed at bedtime, follows your watch's display settings, and moves a few pixels every minute to protect AMOLED screens. GOOD TO KNOW - The home pin and the ice wall's day/night level use the watch's last GPS fix, a saved fix, or Garmin weather coordinates as an approximate fallback. The face does not track GPS continuously. Your location stays on the watch; the face makes no network requests. With no location available, the pin is hidden. - The map is NASA Blue Marble imagery in an azimuthal equidistant projection, the classic flat-earth layout, with the Antarctic rim drawn as an ice wall.
