Opis
NuitClaire tells you what to look at in the night sky right now, with binoculars or the naked eye, and guides you to it.
With binoculars
- The easiest targets of the moment, chosen for your binoculars, their height in the sky, the Moon and your horizon: clusters, galaxies, nebulae, double stars.
- The planets that are up, with a sketch of Jupiter's four moons.
- Star hopping from a bright naked-eye star, field by field, with a mini-chart oriented like the sky.
With the naked eye
- Some twenty hand-picked sights: the Pleiades, the Andromeda Galaxy, the Orion Nebula, the Double Cluster, Mizar and Alcor...
- The Moon: its phase and what to see tonight (crescent and earthshine, maria, full Moon).
- The planets, Mercury included.
- Meteor showers: around the peak of the major showers (Perseids, Geminids...), how many per hour to expect, when, and where the radiant is.
- Bare-hands guidance: a guide star, then so many fists at arm's length in a given direction.
How targets are chosen
- With binoculars, from a catalog of 435 objects: clusters, galaxies, nebulae, double stars. Only what your binoculars can show is kept: bright enough for their aperture (magnitude 8.5 with 50 mm), and, for diffuse objects, not so faint that they vanish into the sky background.
- A target must be above your minimum height, in a direction where your horizon is clear, and stay there for the next hour.
- Each target gets an ease score from its brightness, height and contrast. A bright Moon pushes faint galaxies and nebulae down; clusters and double stars, which cope with moonlight, take their place.
- The five best are kept, with a mix of types: never five open clusters at once.
- With the naked eye, the same method over some twenty hand-picked sights.
Also
- Guidance with the watch compass: how far to turn, how high to look.
- A sky map that turns with you: facing view (the sky in front of you) or the whole sky, with constellation names and the Moon's phase.
- "Tonight": a score out of 10, night hours, the Moon and the Garmin weather forecast.
- Targets you have seen leave the list for 30 days.
- Red on black to keep your night vision. Works with buttons and gloves.
Everything is computed on the watch: no account, no connection, no data sent anywhere.
