Counts your surf waves automatically. Press START, paddle out and forget the watch. I'm Philipp, the dev. I surf the Baltic and built this for my own watch. Get started in 4 steps 1. Install the app. 2. Sync your watch in Garmin Connect until the app is on it. Stuck at "Queued"? Sync again. 3. Create a free account at breakfinder.surf/pair. It shows your 6-digit code. 4. Open the app on your watch, press START and enter the code. What it records - Wave count, live on the watch, with a short buzz after each ride - Top speed, distance and ride time for every wave - GPS track and heart rate - Three sensitivity modes: White Water, Green Wave and Performance - Take-Off Spot compass that points back to where you caught your best waves - Algorithm Lab, if you like to tweak the detection after a session On the water - The live screen shows one big number, your waves. The water at the bottom rises as the session goes on, and two gauges on the bezel show what you pick. - After each wave a card shows its time and top speed. - PAUSED, GPS LOST and LOW BATTERY are spelled out on the screen. - UP and DOWN (on watches that have them) page through conditions, tide, light left, water temperature and distance to your take-off spot. After 10 seconds the watch goes back to the live screen. - MENU is locked while you surf, so a wetsuit sleeve can't change a setting. - Surfing alone? Now and then the watch asks STILL OK? and waits for any button. - After a long hold-down it tells you, and it warns you before last light. Before you paddle out - The ready screen gets a GPS fix before START. If a session ran without GPS, the watch tells you. Waves GPS could not confirm still upload, and you confirm them in the app. - MENU opens one list: take-off spot, auto waves on or off, sensitivity and what the live screen shows. - Speed, distance and temperature follow the units in your BreakFinder profile (not on the smallest Instincts). - Big AMOLED rounds, fenix and Forerunner screens, the square Venu Sq and the Instinct each get their own layout. On the Instinct the water shows your last ride and the session time. Your surf log The watch records offline. After the next sync your session shows up in the BreakFinder app (iPhone and Android) and on breakfinder.surf, with every wave on the map. You can correct a wave count by hand and import older sessions from Strava or FIT files. Ending a session Press START, then press START again within 3 seconds and pick Save. Good to know The free account is what moves your sessions from the watch into your log. Free to start, optional premium. Built on small waves I tune the detection on Baltic windswell, knee to waist high on a good day. I recently spent 14 days on Fuerteventura, surfed every day, went through the sessions every evening and fixed what was off before the next morning.
