Enjoying HELM? A quick rating in the Connect IQ Store helps a small independent studio a lot. Thank you!
HELM turns your watch into a ship's helm instrument. A brass compass rose runs around the bezel with ticks every 5°, degree numerals and a red N under the lubber line; it turns with the compass heading whenever the watch reports one and stays North-up otherwise. A teal arrow on the rose points to where the wind comes from, with its speed in knots, m/s, km/h or mph next to it.
On the dark chart-room disc: the date, a large two-tone time with seconds, and a barometer strip with the last six hours of pressure, the current value in hPa or inHg and a RISING / STEADY / FALLING trend word, or, if you choose, a tide chart for the next 15 hours. Two round cells at 9 and 3 o'clock and three fields at the bottom show heart rate, sunrise or sunset, steps, battery and the weather by default, and each one can show any of nine metrics. A segmented arc under the fields shows the battery. Four colour themes (Brass, Ocean, red Night and Mono); always-on mode shows the time and date, or the whole face dimmed.
Any cell or field can show the tide: the next high or low water with its time and height and a rising or falling arrow (in the round cells the water itself rises and falls inside the circle), computed on the watch from the harmonic constants of the nearest of about 4,200 tide gauges worldwide (fetched through the phone about every two weeks or after a move of 30 km; "~" when the gauge is more than 30 km away, "--" beyond 100 km). Heights are relative to mean sea level. Astronomical tide only, without wind, surge or river effects: not for navigation, always check official tide tables. Tidal constants: TICON-4 by Hart-Davis, Dettmering and Seitz (DGFI-TUM), SEANOE, doi.org/10.17882/109129, CC BY 4.0, and NOAA CO-OPS.

Features:
- Brass compass rose with 5° ticks, degree numerals, cardinal letters and a red lubber line
- Rose follows the compass heading when available, else North up (or always North up)
- Wind arrow at the bearing the wind comes from, speed in knots, m/s, km/h or mph
- Barometer strip: 6-hour pressure sparkline, hPa or inHg, rising / steady / falling trend
- Large two-tone time with seconds, date above it
- Two round cells and three bottom fields, each selectable from nine metrics
- Tide chart instead of the barometer strip: 3 hours back to 15 hours ahead, level now, next high or low
- Tide: next high or low water (time, height, rising / falling; the round cells fill with water) from the nearest of ~4,200 tide gauges worldwide, computed on the watch; not for navigation
- Segmented battery arc
- Four colour themes: Brass, Ocean, Night (red only), Mono
- Always-on mode (AMOLED): minimal time and date, or the full face dimmed
Settings (Garmin Connect IQ app):
- Colour theme — Brass / Ocean / Night (red) / Mono — Brass
- Compass rose — Follows compass / North up — Follows compass
- Wind speed unit — Knots / m/s / km/h / mph — Knots
- Pressure unit — hPa / inHg — hPa
- Chart — Barometer: last 6 hours / Tide: next 15 hours — Barometer
- Tide chart text — Level now + next high / low / Next low + next high — Level now + next
- Left cell (9 o'clock) — Heart rate / Steps / Battery / Weather / Sunrise-sunset / Body Battery / Altitude / Notifications / Tide — Heart rate
- Right cell (3 o'clock) — same nine metrics — Sunrise-sunset
- Bottom fields 1, 2, 3 — same nine metrics — Steps / Battery / Weather
- Time format — Same as watch / 12 hour / 24 hour — Same as watch
- Leading zero on hour — on / off — off
- Show seconds — on / off — on
- Always-on style (AMOLED) — Minimal: time and date / Full fac
Nowości
1.3.1 — Tide chart: set "Chart" to Tide and the strip under the time shows the tide from 3 hours back to 15 hours ahead, with the level now and the next high or low water, or the next low and high water. The chart is wider and the barometer now plots a point every 30 minutes.
