Paper, not an instrument. A white field, one dark ink, and nothing on it that does not need to be there. The clock is a split-flap pair set on the paper: two white porcelain cards side by side, the crease across them, a soft shadow beneath that takes the tint of the sheet, and the edge of the next flap waiting under each. The digits are a tall condensed typeface sized to fill the card, spaced so the time never shifts as a 1 comes and goes. Drawn stencil numerals are there instead if you prefer them, heavy and geometric with two bridges cut clean across every one. Above them, the weather and the date. The weekday and day number sit over the hour window, the month over the minute one, so the row is built from the same two columns the clock is. Below them, three readings and nothing else: steps, pulse, body battery. Each is a number with its name under it, inside a ring pressed into the paper that fades before it can close. The battery is a channel on the bottom rim with a small cell beside it, and it only says a number when it drops below 20% - a full battery is not news. SIX WHITES The paper is yours to choose, and every one of the six is white. White Relic - old ivory paper with an engraved rose window, hand-tinted in faded ochre, madder and verdigris. The default. White Silence - a dense field of stars on a golden-angle spiral, with dust and comets. White Heaven - engraved bands of light and rays arriving from above a horizon. White Dream - soft watercolour bodies drifting behind the face, none of them whole. White Spell - an engraved seal of spokes, rings and tinted medallions round the centre. White Anchor - vellum graph paper with the pencil construction the face was set out on, left on the sheet. All of them are drawn in near-white greys, because the field is the surface every number on this face sits on. They are meant to be found rather than seen: something in the paper at arm's length, a form once you look. Nothing on any of them costs a reading its contrast. ALWAYS-ON An all-white screen is near the whole of what an AMOLED watch is allowed to keep lit, so this face does not dim into its always-on frame - it inverts. White ink on true black, carrying the clock, the date, the battery and the three values. It is built to stay lit rather than blank out after a few seconds. SETTINGS Clock font: Condensed or Stencil. Background: White Relic, Silence, Heaven, Dream, Spell or Anchor. Accent colour: gold, red, orange, green, purple or ink. It touches the day number, the battery once it matters, and the sparks in Silence - never a surface, so nothing can turn unreadable behind it. Temperature units: follow the watch, Celsius or Fahrenheit. Weather data always arrives in Celsius whatever the watch is set to, so this one cannot be derived. Time format follows the watch's own 12/24-hour setting - anything the watch already knows is taken from the watch rather than asked again here.
