תיאור
Power data field with zone colors, live CdA estimate and a drafting display (DRAFT).
DESCRIPTION
Power Color Field shows your power so you can read it at a glance, even at speed: the whole background lights up in the color of your current power zone. On top of that, the field estimates your aerodynamic drag (CdA) live and shows how many watts you save in the slipstream.
FEATURES
• Large 3-second power with the background in 7 zone colors based on your FTP (white, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, purple). A small buffer at the zone boundaries prevents flickering. At 0 W (stopped, coasting) the background turns light gray.
• Switchable top row:
– CdA + lap power
– Lap time + lap power
– DRAFT (drafting savings) + W/kg
• Bottom row: average power and Normalized Power (NP) in their zone colors, plus a wind arrow relative to your direction of travel with wind speed.
• Live CdA: physical model using power, speed, gradient, acceleration, air density and wind. Measured only on straight sections; uncertain readings (climbs, accelerations) count less.
• CdA in your recording: chart plus weighted median per lap and for the whole ride, visible in Garmin Connect.
• DRAFT: watts saved compared with your solo CdA. Responds within about 10 seconds and is shown from 25 km/h and up to ±5 % gradient.
• Wind data updated automatically every 5 minutes via your smartphone: wind speed primarily from measurements of the nearest DWD weather station (in Germany, within 25 km) with the wind direction from the Météo-France weather model (Open-Meteo), otherwise entirely from the weather model, and finally Garmin weather. Arrow color = source: green DWD measurement, yellow weather model, red Garmin. Hollow arrow = wind data outdated, no arrow = no wind data.
• Adapts automatically to any field size, from 1 to 10 fields per page. Labels are shortened step by step when space is tight (LAP TIME → L-T → LT).
• English and German (labels and settings).
SETUP
1. Install the data field and add it to a data page of your cycling profile: Activity profile › Data screens › select a field › Connect IQ › Power Color Field.
2. Open the settings in the Connect IQ app:
– FTP (only needed if no FTP is set in your Garmin user profile)
– Bike weight incl. equipment (bike, bottles, bags, clothing). Your body weight is taken from your Garmin profile.
– Rolling resistance (Crr) matching your tires
– Reference CdA for DRAFT: your solo CdA (e.g. ~0.33 in a sporty position, ~0.49 with jacket and bag)
– Top row display: CdA / lap time / DRAFT
3. Before the ride: zero-offset your power meter, keep your smartphone connected and wait until the wind arrow is filled.
DURING THE RIDE
• Tap the field to switch the top row (touch devices). Devices without a touchscreen: choose the display in the settings.
• The lap button starts a new lap; the lap CdA starts over. Tip: press lap when you switch between riding solo and in a group.
• "CAL" = no valid CdA reading yet (normal during the first ~60 seconds). Gray CdA pill = no new reading for 2 minutes (e.g. bends, climbs). "DRAFT --" = below 25 km/h or too steep.
MORE SETTINGS
• CdA calculation on/off
• Ignore wind (for heavily sheltered routes)
• Drivetrain loss (wax 0.02 / good oil 0.03 / dirty 0.05)
• Wheel inertia (climbing 1.0 / all-round 1.3 / aero 1.7)
• Rider weight (only if no weight is set in your Garmin profile)
REQUIREMENTS
• Power meter
• Smartphone with the Garmin Connect app for wind data (without wind data there is no CdA reading; the power display still works)
SUPPORTED DEVICES
Edge 520 Plus, 530, 540, 550, 830, 840, 850, 1030, 1030 Plus, 1030 Bontrager, 1040, 1050, Explore 2, Edge MTB.
NOTES
• CdA is an estimate based on weather data and measured data, not a wind tunnel measurement. It is most meaningful on flat, straight roads at a steady effort. Gusts, shelter from trees or buildings, group riding and changes in position affect the value.
• Privacy: to get wind data, your current position is se

VERSION 2.6.0
- New setting "Lap time + lap power: lap NP bottom right": in this view the bottom right shows the NP of the current lap instead of the whole ride, so during intervals you see lap time, lap power and lap NP at a glance. Off by default.
- White text now also on yellow and orange pills, like the main value; black only on white and light gray.
VERSION 2.5.1
- Larger pills and more readable labels in wide, shallow data fields. The main value adapts to the available space.
- New setting: calculate lap average power without zero watts. Zero-watt values are included by default. Changing this setting restarts the lap average calculation.
- Lap NP starts fresh on Lap and workout step completion. The first new value appears after 30 seconds and includes power from the new lap only. Overall NP continues for the entire activity.
VERSION 2.5.0
• Lap values: in workouts from Garmin Connect, lap power, lap time and lap CdA now restart with every workout step.
• New top-row mode: lap NP + lap power (by tapping or in the settings).
• With the "power in % FTP" setting, NP and lap NP are now shown in % FTP as well.
• Main number in zone 4 (yellow) and zone 5 (orange) is white instead of black for better readability.
VERSION 2.4.0
• New setting: power in % FTP. The main number and lap power are then shown as a percentage of your FTP instead of watts; average power and NP stay in watts.
• Italian translation.
VERSION 2.3.0
• Lower battery use: wind data every 15 instead of 5 minutes and only while recording (not before the start, not during pauses). Less work when redrawing, DRAFT is only calculated while it is shown.
• Crash-safe: NP, lap power, lap time and lap and ride CdA continue after the field restarts.
• Lap CdA: a lap without a valid reading shows 0 instead of the previous lap's value.
• FTP setting: 0 = from your Garmin profile, a value entered here now takes precedence. Important: if you had entered your own FTP, please enter it again.
• More robust start: if the Edge cannot set up recording at power-on, the field keeps running anyway.
VERSION 1.0.0 – First release
• Power in 7 zone colors based on your FTP, plus lap power, lap time, W/kg, average power and NP.
• Live CdA estimate with lap and ride medians in Garmin Connect, DRAFT display for the watts saved in the slipstream.
• Wind data: wind speed from the nearest DWD weather station, wind direction from the Météo-France weather model; without a station entirely from the model, finally Garmin weather.
• The wind arrow shows the source: green DWD measurement, yellow weather model, red Garmin. Hollow = outdated, no arrow = no wind data.
• Wind effect calibrated on out-and-back test rides.
