Description

SAUNA TRACKER A Garmin Connect IQ watch app that records sauna sessions as a regular Garmin activity. Tracks elapsed time, heart rate, calories and temperature, alternates between sauna and relax phases, and saves each session to Garmin Connect. No GPS / location is used. *** HEAT WARNING *** A SAUNA'S HEAT CAN EXCEED THE WATCH'S RATED OPERATING RANGE. Check the maximum operating temperature in your watch's specifications before taking it into a sauna. Sustained heat above that limit risks damaging the device, and no app can protect it. Use at your own risk. TEMPERATURE NOTE The value comes from the watch's built-in thermometer. Worn on the wrist it reads close to body temperature, not true sauna air temperature. An external Garmin tempe sensor gives an accurate ambient reading. ON-WATCH CONTROLS (FENIX / EPIX) - START (top-right): start; press again to pause and open the finish menu. - BACK (bottom-right): switch sauna / relax while running; resume from pause; exits when idle. - MENU (long-press UP): open the finish menu while recording, or the Settings menu when idle. A session starts in the SAUNA phase; each BACK press ends the current phase and starts the other one (recorded as a new lap). The finish menu offers Resume / Save / Discard. Saving writes the activity to your watch's history, which syncs to Garmin Connect. SINGLE DASHBOARD Everything is shown on one screen, no paging: SAUNA phase / status (orange = sauna, blue = relax) 3:01 time in the current phase (big) total 12:34 total elapsed time HR 132 78°C heart rate | temperature 84 kcal S2 R1 calories | sauna/relax counts 14:35 time of day On Instinct watches the current phase is drawn as an icon inside the sub-display lens (a flame for SAUNA, a "Z" for RELAX, "||" for PAUSED, a play triangle for READY) instead of the SAUNA / RELAX label, and the phase timer sits to the left of the lens. Everything else is the same. SETTINGS / ABOUT Long-press MENU when no session is recording to open the Settings menu. Today it has one entry, About, which shows the app version and a QR code linking to the source repository. Open source, MIT licensed: https://github.com/sv-garmin/sauna-tracker

What is new

SAUNA TRACKER — CHANGELOG All notable changes to this project. v1.2.1 — 2026-06-02 Changed - Repository moved to github.com/sv-garmin/sauna-tracker. The About screen's QR code is regenerated to point at the new URL. v1.2.0 — 2026-06-02 Added - Settings / About screen, accessible by long-pressing the MENU button when no session is recording. The About screen shows the app name, the current version, and a scannable QR code linking to the project's GitHub page. The Settings menu currently has only the About entry but is structured so more entries can be added later. Changed - Renamed the app to "Sauna Tracker". The recorded activity name in Garmin Connect remains "Sauna" — matching Garmin's convention of naming activities by what they are, not by the app. v1.1.0 — 2026-06-01 Added - Support for Garmin watches with a sub-display lens (Instinct 2 / 2S / 2X and similar): the current mode is rendered as an icon inside the lens — a play triangle for READY, a flame for SAUNA, a "Z" for RELAX, and "||" for PAUSED. Phase timer and total time sit to the left of the lens; heart rate, temperature, calories, counts and clock fill the area below. Fixed - Layout on Instinct 2/2S/2X no longer clips the title and timer behind the sub-display lens. v1.0.0 — 2026-05-27 — initial release Added - Records each sauna as a Garmin Cardio FIT activity (no GPS) that syncs to Garmin Connect with duration, heart rate and calories. - Sauna / relax phase toggle on the BACK button — every switch is a lap in the FIT, so Garmin Connect shows the duration of every phase. - Single dashboard with: phase (SAUNA orange / RELAX blue), large current phase time, total session time, current heart rate, ambient temperature (°C or °F per device settings), calories, sauna/relax phase counts, and time of day. - Temperature recorded as a custom FIT field, sampled once per second from the built-in thermometer (or external Garmin tempe sensor). - Finish menu (Resume / Save / Discard) via START while running, or long-press of the menu button. - Contextual BACK: switches phase while running, resumes from pause when paused, exits only when idle — protects against losing data by accident. - Haptic feedback on start, pause, phase switch and save. - Auto-save fallback if the app is force-closed while a session is open. - Custom sauna-themed launcher icon.
