Description

Five mechanical watch dials in one face. Pick the one that suits the day from the settings menu; each keeps its own colours, its own markers and its own complications. OCTAGON A basket-weave guilloche ground with applied round markers, polished batons at twelve, six and nine, and a date at three. The weave is the point: blocks of fine grooves that alternate direction cell by cell, the way warp and weft alternate in cloth. GMT The same weave in navy, with an orange-tipped fourth hand reading a second time zone on a twenty-four hour scale, applied batons doubled at twelve, and a date at three. TITANIUM A vertically grained dial that darkens toward the rim, small seconds down at half past four, a printed minute track and no bezel at all. The quietest of the five. CHRONO Three registers on a ruled grid - battery on the left, twenty-four hour on the right, running seconds below - with a date at half past four and the head of each scale picked out in the accent colour. ATTESA The most complicated: a black outer ring carrying the minute track, a grained inner disc, a day-of-week register at twelve, a twenty-four hour register at nine, a gold-framed date at three, and a moonphase at six. THE MOON IS REAL The moonphase is computed from the clock against the standard lunar epoch, not approximated by sliding a disc across. The terminator you see is the moon's own circle edge-on, so it projects as an ellipse - a clean straight edge at the quarters, a true crescent either side of new. It carries craters, a fixed starfield and a stippled night side. ON THE WRIST - Settings: MENU / Watch Face / Settings, on the watch itself. No phone needed. - Dial: choose among the five. - Colour: five colourways for each dial, twenty-five in all - Frost, Slate, Sand, Moss and Oxide on Octagon; Midnight, Abyss, Ember, Olive and Onyx on GMT; Ocean, Deep, Umber, Fern and Ash on Titanium; Paper, Ash, Onyx, Steel and Sage on Chrono; Slate gold, Midnight gold, Steel, Ice and Copper on Attesa. - On touchscreen models, a press on the middle of the dial cycles the colour. ALWAYS-ON A separate design rather than a dimmed copy: solid hands, twelve hour marks with the quarters longer, and a small hub. It drifts one slow turn every half hour so no pixel holds a colour through the night, and lights under three per cent of the panel. Each dial keeps its own accent through the night, so you can still tell which is selected. DRAWN IN CODE Every line, groove, bevel and shadow is rendered on the watch rather than shipped as an image, so all five are equally sharp on a 360px Forerunner and a 454px epix Pro. Colours sit on the panel's own 16-bit grid, so what was designed is what reaches the glass. Inspired by the integrated sports watches of the nineteen-seventies and eighties.
