Description

Homing works out when your first pigeon should drop onto the loft. It measures the distance from the release site to your loft over the WGS84 ellipsoid (Vincenty), takes the wind from the weather forecast at mid-flight, splits it into head/tail and crosswind along the course and turns that into an expected speed and an arrival window, counting down from the release time. When the birds come in, you clock each one on your wrist and see its speed in metres per minute straight away. After every race the app learns your own birds' still-air speed and spread per weather type (calm, tailwind, headwind, crosswind), so next week's window fits your loft better than any rule of thumb. Homing is a planning aid, not an official race clock or constatation system. WHAT IT DOES - Distance and course from release site to loft (Vincenty, metres) - Wind along the route from the forecast, or set by hand: tail/head and crosswind component - Expected speed and arrival window, live countdown, vibration when the window opens - Clock arrivals per pigeon (ring number), the time is fixed at the tap; add an arrival by time afterwards - Speed per pigeon in m/min or yards per minute, results per race - Best pigeons ranked on form: speed against what the wind allowed, so a headwind race does not count against a bird - Learns still-air speed and window width per weather type from your first bird - Release sites: your own list, 39 well-known sites (approximate), current GPS position for training tosses, or coordinates in decimal or degrees-minutes-seconds - Glance: expected 14:32-14:48, window open, overdue or first bird with speed - Metric or imperial, 12/24 h, five languages WHAT IT NEEDS - GPS once to store the loft position (or enter its coordinates) - Weather forecast via Garmin Connect for automatic wind (manual wind works without) - The app open on the watch for the countdown and the vibration

What is new

New: a notification when the arrival window opens, even with the app closed (Arrival alert can be turned off in the menu).
