Description
Virtual Gear Logger+ (VGLA) is a Connect IQ Data Field that displays gear, pedaling, power, lap and Bike data, and records VGLA data in the activity FIT file. It supports electronic/mechanical shifting.
Electronic mode displays front/rear gear data. Tested with Shimano 12-speed Di2 and SRAM AXS 12-speed.
Mechanical mode estimates the gear from configured chainrings, sprockets, wheel circumference, and live speed/cadence. VGLA and Analyzer both include prediction models.
VGLA CONFIGURATOR
https://toab.lovestoblog.com/VGLA_Configurator.html
This free JP/EN browser tool edits all 138 standard VGLA settings.
Preview VGLA/Edge layouts and save JSON backups. Apply settings to v0.9.8h by generating a code and syncing it through Garmin Connect Mobile.
Applying a settings code:
1. Save/discard any recording and leave VGLA idle.
2. Generate and copy the full code in Configurator.
3. Paste it into “Settings code (VGLA1 / part)” in Garmin Connect Mobile; save and sync.
4. Confirm “OK” and the 8-character ID on Edge.
Browser-local save is available; keep a JSON backup. Bike Total distance correction and maintenance resets use Garmin Connect Mobile.
Note: v0.9.8h mobile settings are English only. Bike and maintenance names support Unicode.
DISPLAY AND BIKES
Configure six Pages with independent 2/4/6/8-cell layouts, items, and fonts. Items include gear, PB/TE/PS, cadence, heart rate, grade, power, lap, battery, and workout data. Background, threshold colors, and brightness are adjustable. PB/TE/PS use a 3-second average.
Store four Bike Settings with name, Electronic/Mechanical mode, gear display, gearing, and wheel circumference.
On touchscreen Edge devices, tap before recording for Bike 1-4 and during recording for Page 1-6. Garmin Connect Mobile can also select Bike/Page.
Recording locks Bike and drivetrain settings. Bike changes and settings codes are rejected during recording; Page and display changes remain available.

BASIC USE
1. Add VGLA to an activity-profile data screen.
2. Select Electronic or Mechanical; for Mechanical, enter actual gearing and wheel circumference.
3. Set cells/items for Pages 1-6.
4. Start recording.
5. Analyze the FIT file when needed.
TRIAL AND PURCHASE
VGLA has a 7-day free trial. Continued use requires a KiezelPay VGLA license (US$5, one-time purchase). VGLA Analyzer and Configurator are free.

If no purchase code appears, check the smartphone/Garmin Connect Mobile connection and restart Edge. If hard to read, temporarily place VGLA in a one-field layout.
DATA HANDLING
Configurator editing and Analyzer FIT processing occur in the browser. Settings, original FIT files, ride data, and results are not sent to a VGLA server. KiezelPay handles licensing and purchasing.
NOTES
VGLA is a Data Field and must be added to a data screen. Electronic-shifting compatibility is not guaranteed for every system. Mechanical gears are estimates and may differ from the actual gear. PB/TE/PS and battery items require compatible devices that provide those data. Always prioritize road conditions, traffic laws, and safe riding.
SUPPORTED DEVICES

Minimum Connect IQ API: 5.2.2
What is new
Virtual Gear Logger+ Version History
v0.9.8x (Changes since v0.9.8v)
- Added Power History to single-cell graph mode on Page 1-8. Shows the activity timeline with zone-colored interval averages, thin peak lines, and a dashed FTP guide.
- Automatically merges intervals for longer activities without growing history memory. Retains received peaks; missing data is not backfilled.
- Fixed a memory-related "IQ!" crash during history saves after page switching. Reduced memory use; low memory defers graph saves while live tracking continues.
- Restores saved history when the same activity reloads.
- Configurator v1.10.0 adds graph selection and previews; browser saves, defaults, and 191-setting codes remain compatible.
Note: Save or discard any activity before updating. Codes using Power History require production v0.9.8x or later.
v0.9.8v (Changes since v0.9.8u)
- Bike auto select now works when recording starts directly from the Edge home screen before VGLA opens.
- Until a registered power-meter ID is confirmed, shows "Bike unconfirmed" instead of assuming the previous Bike. Gear display, FIT gear recording, and per-Bike accumulation wait for confirmation; missing time is not backfilled.
- Once confirmed, the Bike stays fixed for the activity. Reloading the same activity restores its pending or confirmed state.
v0.9.8u (Changes since v0.9.8q)
- Added optional pre-ride Bike auto select using registered ANT+ power-meter IDs. Manual selection takes priority.
- Expanded to eight pages, including per-Bike enabled/start pages, workout pages, and Edge/Connect IQ page selection.
- Added single-cell vertical graphs for time in seven Power zones and five Heart Rate zones. Only received recording data is counted, so totals may differ from Garmin Connect.
- Updated fresh-install defaults while retaining existing settings, Bike Totals, and licenses.
- Expanded codes to 191 settings; 138/139/147/149/154-setting codes remain compatible.
- Configurator v1.9.0 improves browser-save restoration and adds Reload browser save. Hides mechanical beep settings for electronic Bikes without losing their values.
v0.9.8q (Changes since v0.9.8o)
- Added per-Bike enabled/start pages. Switching Bikes opens the start page; disabled pages cannot be selected.
- Allowed manual page changes during workout display, returning to a valid selected page afterward.
- Added an optional mechanical rear end-gear beep when shifting from a middle gear to the top or low gear, with 12 tones.
- Expanded codes to 149 settings and fixed invalid page selections being saved.
v0.9.8o (Changes since v0.9.8m)
- Added automatic workout page selection and restoration when the workout ends or is canceled.
- Added Page selection alongside Bike in Edge Change Settings. Pages can change during recording or pause; manual Bike changes remain pre-ride only.
- A page chosen during workout display becomes the return page.
- Expanded codes to 139 settings; 138-setting codes remain compatible.
v0.9.8m
- Added named Bike 1-4 selection in Edge Change Settings on touch/button models.
- Retains selections on direct recording starts; Bike changes are never queued for later.
- Applies pre-ride codes received before VGLA opens and clears the input for easy resending.
v0.9.8k / v0.9.8h
- Improved Bike restoration, Bike/gear locking, "Bike locked" safety, and five-second Bike-name confirmation.
- Added configuration-code support, simpler mobile settings, and settings/totals/maintenance migration.
v0.9.8f and earlier
- Added six-page layouts, lap metrics, per-Bike totals/maintenance, sensor batteries, and three-second PB/TE/PS averages.
- Added Workout, Smart Trainer, and Varia/Light data, expanded ride metrics and layouts, and improved small-field displays.
- Introduced four Bikes, mechanical gear prediction, Bike/Page switching, Grade, and Connect IQ API 5/5.2.2.
