Description
Cedric is a 24-hour data face built specifically for the Instinct 2. It is
designed around two facts about this watch that most faces ignore: the display
is one bit per pixel with no antialiasing, and the case plus the printed ring
around the sub-screen physically hide about 13% of the panel. Every element was
placed against the real visible area, and every shape is a solid block or a hard
edge rather than a thin diagonal or a gradient, because that is what stays sharp
on a memory-in-pixel screen in direct sun.
WHAT IS ON THE FACE
Time
- Large 24-hour clock in a custom pixel font, sized to the widest row of the
panel that is fully visible.
Weather and pressure
- Current conditions icon and current temperature.
- Today's low and high on a track, with a marker showing where the current
temperature sits between them. You can see at a glance whether it is still
warming up or already past the peak.
- Barometric pressure trend arrow: rising, falling or steady.
Sun and moon
- Sunrise and sunset times either side of a progress track.
- After dark the track inverts. Instead of showing a finished day, it spans
sunset to the next sunrise, so the lit portion is the darkness you still
have left. The two labels swap automatically.
- Moon phase, drawn from lunar phase maths rather than a lookup table.
- Sunrise and sunset are calculated on the watch from your last known
position. No phone connection needed and the numbers never go stale.
Body and activity
- Body Battery in the sub-screen, shown twice: as a large number and as a
ring gauge around it, so you can read the level or just the arc.
- Step count.
- Live heart rate.
- Two hours of heart-rate history as 29 columns. Each column covers four
minutes and is drawn from that window's lowest reading to its highest, so
you see how variable your heart rate was, not just an average. A calm
stretch is a short bar, a hard stretch is a tall one, and a spike is still
a spike instead of being smoothed away.
Watch battery
- Battery level as a bar, solid up to the current charge and striped for the
remainder, so the full scale is always visible.
- Estimated days of battery remaining next to it, which is the number that
actually matters when you are deciding whether to charge tonight.
BUILT FOR BATTERY LIFE
- No seconds are displayed, so the face redraws once a minute. This is the
cheapest possible update mode on Connect IQ. There is no always-on second
hand quietly draining the watch.
- Uses about 22 kB of the 60 kB memory budget.
PRIVACY
- No network access. The face has no Communications permission and cannot
send anything anywhere. Nothing leaves your watch.
- Positioning is used only to read your last known fix so sunrise and sunset
can be computed locally. No location is stored or transmitted.
- Sensor History is used only to read your own Body Battery and heart-rate
history from the watch.
COMPATIBILITY
- Instinct 2, Instinct 2 Solar, Instinct 2 Dual Power, Instinct 2 dezl
Edition.
- Requires Connect IQ 3.4.0 or newer. A small number of units shipped on
firmware with Connect IQ 3.2.7 and cannot run this face, because the Body
Battery history it uses did not exist in that version.
- Instinct 2S and Instinct 2X are NOT supported. They have different screen
dimensions and this face is laid out to the pixel for the 176x176 panel.
