Description

Wear the watch on your racket arm, press START and play. Courtbeat counts and names your tennis strokes, keeps the score when you want it to, and after the session shows you on large, labelled pages: how many strokes, of which type, how long you played, your heart rate and the score. It fits any tennis: a match, a practice, a lesson, a basket of serves or a mix. You don't have to pick a session type; a score opens at 0-0 the moment you press a point key. ON COURT • Your last stroke's name in the middle, large: FOREHAND, BACKHAND, SERVE, VOLLEY, SMASH; when the watch is not sure, ≈ and "not sure". Your heart rate on top, the stroke's trail on a half court behind. • Strokes come from the watch's own gyroscope and accelerometer. No phone, no sensor on the racket. • A buzz on each stroke, its own for each type: you know what the watch saw without looking. A setting makes it one pulse or turns it off. • Between points the score sits on the court, large: your points on your half, theirs across the net; games, sets and who serves in words. • Score without looking: UP is your point, DOWN is your opponent's, BACK undoes; on touch watches tap your half. • Mark how a point ended: within a second, the same key for a winner or a forced error, the other for an unforced error. It goes to Garmin Connect. • Singles and doubles, up to five sets, tiebreaks, no-ad. A half-played match survives a crash. AFTER THE SESSION • Summary: a headline sentence when there is news, your total strokes large, time, average heart rate and calories. • Strokes: forehands, backhands, serves, volleys and smashes, most to least, with counts and bars. • Match result (if you kept score): the sets on the court, the winner in words. • Heart rate: your average and your highest, the session's curve in the colour of its zone. • Your tennis activity in Garmin Connect; in a scored match, a lap for every game. WANT MORE? Courtbeat Pro is a separate app, a one-time purchase with no subscription. It adds: Sections, Serve, heart rate zones, Condition, Play balance, Wrist speed, Progress, Records, History, one tip for your next session, and correcting a stroke the watch got wrong. Progress, History and corrections are in Pro only; the other pages appear here with all their labels, the values from your own session locked. Everything else is complete and has no time limit. HOW FAR TO TRUST EACH NUMBER An estimate, or a type the watch is not sure of, carries ≈; an unknown value is an empty outline, never a zero. A wrist cannot see the ball, so now and then it counts a swing that was not a stroke, or misses one. No accuracy figure is printed: none has been measured on a Garmin watch yet. WHAT IT DOES NOT MEASURE Speed in km/h, whether a ball was in or out, where you stand on court, topspin against flat. GOOD TO KNOW • Needs a Garmin watch with a gyroscope and Connect IQ 5.1.1 or later; the device list on this page is exact. • GPS is off by default. Reading the motion sensors all session costs battery. • No account, and the watch needs no phone: it works in airplane mode. Unless you choose to share your strokes' motion anonymously to improve recognition (never location, heart rate or identity; courtbeat.neron.app/privacy), nothing leaves your watch except the activity you sync to Garmin Connect and what it sends to the Courtbeat phone app. Your heart rate zones are read from your watch's profile. • Heart rate, time and calories are your watch's own readings, for information. Courtbeat is not a medical device and gives no health advice. The stroke model is trained on the Silent Impact dataset (Park, Yang and Jo, UIST 2024), CC BY 4.0 (creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0). Changed: dominant wrist only, 100 Hz, swing features. Garmin and Connect IQ are trademarks of Garmin Ltd. or its subsidiaries. Courtbeat is independent and not endorsed by Garmin.

What is new

Every screen is new since 1.1: larger text, a label beside every number, one question per page. • Start: Practice, or Match to set the format first. In any session a point key opens the score. • Live screen: your last stroke's name in the middle, large; ≈ and "not sure" when the watch is not sure. Your heart rate always on top. • A buzz on each stroke, its own for each type; a setting makes it one pulse or turns it off. • Between points: the score on the court, large; games, sets and who serves in words. • After the session: Summary (with a headline when there is news), Strokes, Match result and Heart rate. The stroke flower is gone; the Strokes list replaces it. Your last session opens again from the start screen. • Courtbeat Pro's pages (Sections, Serve, Condition, Play balance, Wrist speed, Records and a tip) appear here with all their labels; the values from your own session are locked. • Let's improve Courtbeat together: after your first session the watch asks once whether to share your strokes' motion anonymously. Nothing is sent unless you say yes; change it at any time in Courtbeat's settings in the Garmin Connect app. Turning it off asks for what was sent to be deleted. Details: courtbeat.neron.app/privacy • Permissions: UserProfile, to read your heart rate zones from your watch's profile; Communications, only for sharing and the phone app.
