Description

Predict exactly when you'll finish a hilly segment — using effort, not raw pace. Flat-ground pace predictions fall apart on rolling or climbing terrain: a tough climb early in a segment throws off any simple "time = distance / current pace" estimate. This data field fixes that by measuring how much of the segment's total effort — distance plus climbing — you've already done, then projecting your remaining time from how much distance and elevation gain you have left. HOW IT WORKS Press Lap to start a new prediction. From that moment, the field treats the segment as a total amount of effort: its distance plus a flat-equivalent cost for every meter climbed. It tracks how much of that effort you've completed (distance covered plus the watch's own filtered elevation gain) and how long it took you, then projects the effort that's left at that same rate. Because climbing is read from the watch's filtered ascent counter rather than second-by-second altitude, the prediction settles within the first couple of minutes instead of reading far too fast while barometer noise evens out. The GAP readout uses a standard running energy-cost model (Minetti et al.), with grade measured over 20 m stretches so altitude noise doesn't inflate it. ON SCREEN Predicted finish time — large, front and center Average GAP and average raw pace The actual pace you need to hold for the rest of the segment to hit your predicted time Distance done / distance left Elapsed time / time left Elevation gained so far SETTINGS Segment distance (km) — default 2.76 km Segment elevation gain (m) — default 192 m Reference avg pace and avg GAP (MM:SS) — optional, off by default Set the distance and elevation once for your regular hilly loop, interval, or race segment, then just press Lap at the start each time. By default, the field estimates how much each meter of climbing costs by spreading the elevation evenly over the distance. If you've run the segment before, you can calibrate it with real data: enter the average pace and average GAP from one of your past efforts (from Strava or Garmin Connect) into the two reference fields as MM:SS (e.g. 5:30). The field uses their ratio to set how much effort the climbing on that specific segment really costs — capturing lumpy terrain that a flat average grade misses. WHO IT'S FOR Built for runners who train on hilly or rolling segments where flat-pace math doesn't hold up — hill repeats, trail loops, or any repeated segment with real elevation change. If you've ever crested a hill with no idea whether you're on pace, this field is for you. All distances and paces are shown in kilometers, and the layout automatically adapts to your watch's screen shape and the field size you assign it.

What is new

More accurate, steadier finish prediction: now based on distance plus filtered elevation gain, so it no longer reads far too fast early in a segment. GAP grade is measured over 20 m stretches, removing altitude-noise inflation. Bigger, crisper numbers on watches with scalable font support.
