Description

STEPS AND FLOORS - Track Your Gym Cardio Tracks steps, cadence, and floors during Elliptical and Stair Stepper workouts—activities where Garmin normally shows zero steps. IMPORTANT: Data appears in Garmin Connect's "Developer Fields" section due to Garmin security restrictions. After syncing, manually copy step count to your main Steps field to count toward daily goals (~30 seconds). WHY USE THIS? Garmin watches don't track steps or cadence for Elliptical and Stair Stepper activities. This data field uses your watch's motion sensors to calculate accurate counts in real-time. KEY FEATURES: WORKS ON MOST WATCHES - Uses built-in accelerometer (Fenix 8/7, Forerunner 965, Epix 2, many others). External footpods or HR straps supported but typically not needed. SMART AUTO-DETECTION - Automatically recognizes Elliptical or Stair Stepper from your activity profile. ADAPTIVE LAYOUTS - Adjusts based on field size: large fields show all metrics vertically, medium show side-by-side, small show steps only. MACHINE LIBRARY - 20+ pre-configured stair stepper models (StairMaster, Precor, Life Fitness, Matrix, NordicTrack, VersaClimber, more) plus custom option. METRIC & IMPERIAL - Auto-detects device preference or manually choose meters/feet and cm/inches. COMPLETE FIT DATA - Records steps, floors, and ascent with time-series graphs and lap breakdowns. HOW IT WORKS: 1. Add to your Elliptical or Stair Stepper activity 2. App auto-detects activity type and units 3. Optional: Select machine model or custom step height 4. Start workout—real-time calculation 5. After syncing, view in "Developer Fields" 6. Optional: Copy to main Steps field for daily goals Ellipticals: stride = 2 steps. Stair steppers: cadence cycle = 1 step. Floors use machine step height (1 floor = 3.0m ascent). SENSOR INFO: Works with built-in accelerometer on most modern Garmin watches (Fenix 7/8, Forerunner 965/955/945, Epix 2, Enduro 2/3, Instinct 2/3). No barometric altimeter needed. Optional external sensors: Bluetooth/ANT+ footpods (Running Dynamics Pod, Stryd) or HR straps with running dynamics (HRM-Pro, HRM-Pro Plus, HRM-Run, HRM-Tri). SETTINGS: Configure via Garmin Connect Mobile or on-device: - Activity Mode: Auto-detected (manual override available) - Machine Model: 20+ presets or custom - Custom Step Height: 2-50 (cm or inches) - Ascent Unit: Auto, meters, or feet - Step Height Unit: Auto, cm, or inches COMPATIBILITY: 120+ Garmin watches: Fenix (5+), Forerunner (55+), Epix, Enduro, Descent, Approach, Venu, Vivoactive, Instinct, MARQ, D2. Requires Connect IQ 3.1+.
