Description
A split-flap flip clock set into a steampunk instrument: brass, rivets and an open gear train behind the glass.
A split-flap flip clock fills the left of the face, hours and minutes on stacked metal flaps that turn on brass pivots, the weekday and date on a bar beneath with the day number on a red inlay and the month on a riveted brass plate. A seconds sub-dial counts the minute out beside them, graduations relighting as it fills - switch it off if you would rather have the quiet face.
Around the rim, two graduated gauges track what matters: step goal above, battery below, each with a 0-100 scale and a fine needle. Four riveted windows carry steps, distance, body battery and heart rate, labelled in curved engraved type that follows the dial. Body battery can take the lower gauge instead, with the battery moving to its window, and the distance window can show stress or last night's sleep score. Current temperature sits over the centre well with a weather glyph beside it - sun, moon, or either behind cloud - picked from real sunrise and sunset for your location.
THE LOOK
The plate is aged, circular-brushed brass, darkened with patina and a touch of verdigris at the joints, riveted round the rim and engraved with every label. The flip cards, date bar and data windows are painted, hammered sheet metal, worn through to the brass along their edges, with brass corner plates and rivets. The gauge faces are printed cards under glass inside polished brass rings, with a red low-battery zone. In the centre well an open movement of brass, steel and copper gears sits on ruby jewels, lit low so the temperature over it reads. Everything casts its own shadow - the plate into the windows, the flip cards onto the plate.
The colours and the inks on them are matched for you: cream print on the dark gauge colours, black on the light ones, light digits on dark cards and dark on white. There is no combination of settings that produces text you cannot read.
Always-on is a separate dimmed frame showing the flip clock alone, measured against the display luminance limit so it stays lit instead of blanking after a few seconds.
