Description
VC Research is a running recorder built for a gait research study at KAIST. It records a normal outdoor run or treadmill session as a standard Garmin activity, and in addition writes the watch's raw accelerometer and gyroscope samples (about 100 Hz) into the same FIT file. The extra data lets researchers align the watch with laboratory motion-capture and force-plate recordings after the session.
What you see on the watch:
- Timer, distance, pace, heart rate (coloured by heart-rate zone) and cadence on one screen
- Automatic 1 km laps with vibration and tone, plus a lap page showing lap pace, average pace and total distance
- A clock page
- Multi-band GNSS (GPS + Galileo + BeiDou + GLONASS, L1/L5) for the best available position accuracy
- Recording keeps running through phone notifications and calls, like a native activity
- Physical buttons only: START to start / open the stop menu, BACK to switch pages; the touchscreen is ignored during a run so accidental taps cannot stop the recording
What is saved:
- A normal running activity in Garmin Connect (time, distance, pace, heart rate, cadence, running dynamics)
- Raw accelerometer / gyroscope / magnetometer samples inside the same FIT file as developer data
Nothing is sent anywhere by this app. All data stays in your FIT file and syncs to your own Garmin Connect account the same way any activity does. This app is intended for participants of the KAIST study; it works on any supported watch but the raw sensor data is only useful with the study's analysis tools.
Supported: Forerunner 165, 265, 265S, 970. Korean and English UI.
What is new
Initial release. Records outdoor runs and treadmill sessions with raw accelerometer / gyroscope samples embedded in the FIT file for the KAIST gait study.
