Description
Stairs is an automatic rep counter for stair sprints, hill repeats and stadium steps. It counts each rep from your watch's barometric altimeter, hands-free.
WHAT IT DOES
• Counts every up-and-down rep automatically. No button presses mid-set.
• Buzzes and beeps at each rep.
• Reads out each lap time in your headphones, so you can track your pace mid-set without looking at your wrist.
• Times every lap, so you can see whether you are holding pace.
• Scores your 2-minute heart-rate recovery when you stop.
• Records reps, elevation gain, rep times, heart rate, calories and VAM (climbing speed).
• Saves to Garmin Connect as a Floor Climbing activity, with per-rep laps, a heart-rate trace and a GPS map.
Built for: stair sprints, stair climbing, hill repeats, stadium stairs, bleachers, tower running, car-park climbs, incline intervals and ski touring.
HOW TO USE IT
1. Open Stairs and press START.
2. Run your reps.
3. Press STOP, then Save.
COUNTING MODES
• Baseline (default) — START sets your current height as zero. One rep = one round trip back to that height. Works from the top or the bottom.
• Turnaround — no fixed start height. Stairs counts an up-then-down as a rep. Use this when the flights are uneven.
• Manual — you tap the lap button at each rep. Stairs still records every stat.
ALTITUDE SOURCE
• Barometer (default) — best for short stair sets.
• GPS + Baro — best for long climbs.
RESET BASELINE
The barometer drifts over a long set, which fires reps early or late. Pause at the same end you started from, select Reset Baseline, then resume. Stairs re-zeros to where you are standing.
SETTINGS
• Invert counter — fires the rep at the far turnaround instead of back at your start height.
• Min ascent — how far you climb before it counts. Default 3 m.
• Min sustain — how long you hold that height before it locks in. Default 5 s.
• Return tolerance — how close to your start you must return. Default 2 m.
• Plus audio cues, vibration, rep target and six accent colours.
ACCURACY
Stairs reads air pressure, not steps. Pressure falls about 1 hPa for every 8 m you climb, so a weather change, an indoor draught or a lift pressure-wave can nudge the count. If a session drifts, adjust the detection settings, switch counting mode, or use Manual mode and tap the laps yourself.
